The Most Important Work in the World

What is the most important work in the world?

Some might say being the President of the United States, or the leader of another nation would be the most important work.

Wouldn’t you agree that the work of God is the most important work that there is?

What is the work of God?

Is it being a pastor, evangelist, or a missionary?

I would concur that these are very important duties.

Yes, being the President or doctor, or some other important position is significant.

Yet these are not the most important.

Jesus tells us what the work of God is when He was questioned about this.

John 6:28, 29 (KJV)

28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

This indeed is the greatest work!

We must believe in Jesus to be saved.

Life is brief.

Eternity is never ending.

So the most important work would be to prepare for eternity!

By so doing we will be doing the most crucial thing during our life on earth.

Jesus said that the greatest sin was to not believe on Him.

See John 16:8, 9.

Since not believing on Him would be the worst sin it stands to reason that the greatest work would be to believe on Him.

Jesus fed the multitude on the other side of the Sea of Galilee with five loaves of bread and two fish.

He then left for the other side of the lake.

Many in the crowd went to great trouble to follow Him by traveling around the lake to find Him.

Their motives were wrong.

Their stomachs were full.

They saw the great miracle and wanted to make Him their King, but not for spiritual reasons.

Jesus told them to labor for things of utmost importance.

Yes, it is important that you work and earn a livelihood, but do not neglect the most essential thing, the salvation of your soul.

These people lost interest when He tried to impart spiritual truths to them.

They asked for a sign to prove Who He was.

They had just seen a wonderful miracle, one of the Lord’s greatest when He fed the multitude.

Yet they asked for another sign.

Why does believing in Him so please God?

We believe although we have not seen Him!

We believe because of His Word.

John 20:29 (KJV)

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Some might say, “I don’t have enough faith.”

You probably have more faith than you realize.

Do you believe that God created the world?

Do you believe that at the last day God will resurrect the dead?

Do you believe that Jesus died and rose again?

If you do you have enough faith to do the most important thing in life!

In this life you may do many important things and fulfill several essential roles.

However, the greatest thing that you can do is believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!

If you believe in Jesus and are committed to Him you are doing the greatest work on earth!
